One of the outcomes of a partnership of Médecins Sans Frontières (in cooperation with EUP - État d’Urgence Production), DNDi, Institut Pasteur, Fondation Mérieux, Universcience, lNSERM and CANOPE, this web documentary offers a fresh perspective on Killer Diseases.

Bacilli, viruses, bacteria… Since time immemorial, humankind has been combatting microscopic but highly dangerous foes that cause deadly diseases. While there have been some significant victories in the unending battle against killer diseases (such as the discovery of antibiotics at the beginning of the 20th century), the war is by no means won, particularly for the world’s poorest populations.

People know little about killer diseases. Who contracts them? How can they be fought? What are the prospects for research? Seeking to answer some of these questions, this educational web documentary puts seven of these diseases (antibiotic resistance, Ebola, hepatitis C, malaria, measles, tuberculosis and HIV-AIDS) under the microscope.

A succession of multimedia modules examines in human, scientific and historic terms the impact of each disease. Filmed portraits give a voice to patients as well as health workers from various places across the world while interviews with those involved in research and development provide an overview of perspectives for the future.
