National staff : 20
International staff : 4
The MSF team helps staff in 16 clinics and hospitals screen and treats STDs. Particular attention is given to syphilis sufferers as cases have tripled over the 1990s.
MSF also supplies medicines and medical material where needed. In Osh General Hospital, MSF has equipped the outpatients department and has also helped staff renovate the laboratory. MSF has launched a training programme for specialists in sexually transmitted diseases to improve their diagnostic methods and the quality of treatment.
Prevention and information is an important part of this programme. MSF is also organising activities to help raise awareness about AIDS and STDs in the community. The team targets drug addicts, prostitutes and prisoners.
