Humanitarian flight crashes in DRC - one MSF staff member on board

A humanitarian air service flight en route between Kisangani and Bukavu in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) went missing during a storm on September 1.

Contact was lost with the aircraft prior to landing and it was located on the morning of Tuesday, September 2, where it had crashed near Bukavu.

As of midday on Tuesday, aerial surveillance had indicated that there were no survivors, but no bodies had yet been recovered or identified.

Dr Samuel Bamoueni, a member of an MSF international medical team was on board. A surgeon from Congo-Brazzaville, Samuel was working with MSF in North Kivu.

MSF is saddened by this tragic news and is awaiting further information. In the meantime, our heartfelt thoughts are with his family.
