MSF's trauma centre in Kunduz, Afghanistan opened in August 2011 to provide free, high-quality medical and surgical care and physical therapy to victims of trauma, as well as those with conflict-

related injuries from bomb blasts or gunshots. It was the only trauma centre of its kind in the region.

The hospital was destroyed by an airstrike on 3 October 2015 and 42 people were killed, including 24 patients, 14 staff and four patient caretakers.

Today, on 3 October 2016, we commemorate the 42 lives lost during the attack and draw attention to ongoing attacks on medical facilities.
