There are between 60,000 and 200,000 children living rough on the streets of Cairo. MSF runs an assistance programme with the primary objective of improving their access to health care. Alongside two Egyptian doctors and health workers from a local association, MSF runs a health centre four days a week. Medical consultations are carried out in a dispensary where free medicine is supplied by MSF. The team is also trying to improve streetchildren's access to hospitals, accompanying individual children where necessary. A sexually transmitted disease (STD)s prevention drive has also been launched and MSF tries to educate children on the dangers of drugs.
