The Daily Star: Easily treatable diseases prove killers amid Syria’s health crisis
TRIPOLI, Lebanon: It’s 10:30 a.m. Friday and the crowd waiting in the courtyard at the Al-Zahra hospital in Tripoli, north Lebanon, for triage at the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) clinic is beginning to swell.
Nisreen is waiting in a line of Syrian refugees to see a doctor for her elderly, wheelchair-bound mother Fatima.
“She is suffering from hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular disease,” Nisreen, who fled the violence in Syria’s central Homs two years ago, explains of her mother.
