Costa Rica 1998
1 November 1998
MSF preparedness for Costa Rica The MSF Regional Office for Emergencies, based in San Jose and set up to provide a more efficient response to emergencies, covers all of Latin America and the Caribbean. The main objective is reactivity and appropriate response to disasters in co-ordination with affected communities and local authorities. The second objective is disaster preparedness and prevention through collaboration with local authorities, regional and international organisations. The meteorological phenomenon El NiÃ?±o has been monitored closely and crucial information obtained from analyses was shared with MSF teams in the region and with headquarters in Europe. MSF also maintains a stock of emergency material in Costa Rica to facilitate rapid interventions in the region.
