MSF developments in Bulgaria The MSF mission was set up mid-May 1997 following an exploratory mission at the request of the transitional government. The regional hospitals and several municipal hospitals in the particularly needy provinces of Targoviste and Kjustendil (pop. 320,000) are kept supplied with drugs and basic medical material that is either bought in Bulgaria or brought in from other European countries. MSF takes charge of the transport, storage and distribution. The team also advises the hospitals on the management of their pharmacies. Priority is given to ensuring availability of the most commonly required drugs and material with a particular focus on the needs of vulnerable groups.
